The other day I finally came to the conclusion that my right foot is, in fact, bigger than my left foot by a half-size. And that that has caused a lot of problems with my feet over the years. Either my right shoe pinches my ankle and top of the foot (too small on right) or I get blisters (too large on left). So, I've finally decided that I will get shoes that fit the right and try an undersock for the left to provide a bit better fit for my left foot's half-size too big shoe. Anyone else have experience doing this? Will this work? Is it a good thing?

Re: One foot a half-size different...
Mon, February 28, 2005 - 12:57 AMMy left foot is 11EEEE
My right foot is 11.5EEEEE
They're closer in size than you might think. If I find a shoe that fits EITHER foot, I buy the pair and break them in. -

Re: One foot a half-size different...
Mon, February 28, 2005 - 1:12 AMHmm. Well, I've had a good pair of hiking boots that was fine. On the other hand, I had a pair of running shoes that gave my left foot a blister when I finally took it for a run that was longer than 2 miles in SF. On a 12 mile walk around SF, I also got this darned rubbing going on with right foot heel with a pair of Merrils. Its getting rather frustrating and also explains why I like sandals with adjustable straps. They fit better.
And, believe me, if you ever go winter-skiing, the difference in length of the foot in boots can be less safe if you aren't aware that you have this problem... -

Re: One foot a half-size different...
Mon, February 28, 2005 - 10:26 AMI've never had a blister on either foot. Not when I was skiing cross-country and not when I was hiking across glaciers and whatnot 20+ miles a day for a month. I'm still not really sure what causes people's feet to blister. Weird. -

Mon, February 28, 2005 - 1:22 PMI doubt its clean living that causes this affliction. -

Re: One foot a half-size different...
Mon, February 28, 2005 - 3:35 PMNone of us washed our feet for a month. Some got horrible blisters while others did not. There was no pattern to what we were wearing or how much weight we were carrying. I think one factor may have been the break-in period. Some of us had worn our boots for a month before th trip under less gruelling conditions while others had flaked out on that (and a bunch of other stuff). One thing we all had in common when we got back was that we completely disposed of our hosiery; pus or no pus. -

Re: One foot a half-size different...
Mon, February 28, 2005 - 3:50 PMSeriously. I never got a blister on my foot from a shoe until I was running Bay to Breakers a few years back. I finally realized the other day that it was because my left foot was looser in my left shoe than in my right. I've been thinking about this a lot because of the problem with my Merrels...
